NEW YORK, N.Y. (June 24, 2020) — The McSilver Institute for Poverty Policy and Research at New York University has announced transportation policy expert Henry L. Greenidge, Esq. as a 2020-2021 Fellow-in-Residence. The fellowship engages nationally recognized social justice scholars and thought leaders across disciplines to conduct research projects, publish books and papers, conduct courses, and participate in seminars, conferences, and workshops.
“As New York City and cities around the nation reopen amid COVID-19, there is an important conversation to be had about the intersection of transportation policy with poverty, race and class. In a field where there are too few thought leaders of color, Henry Greenidge’s industry expertise and distinguished track record of public service make him an invaluable addition to the NYU McSilver team,” says Michael A. Lindsey, PhD, MSW, MPH, Executive Director of the institute.
A dynamic attorney and government affairs professional specializing in policy advising, regulatory affairs and legal advocacy. From his highly awarded tenure in DC under the Obama Administration to his significant accomplishments with New York City, Mr. Greenidge is greatly influencing the future of urban technology through mobility including: autonomous transportation, electric vehicles, and broadband infrastructure. Greenidge is passionate about improving access and addressing inequity in the mobility sector.
Most recently, Mr. Greenidge was named a 2020-2021 Fellow-in-Residence at the NYU McSilver Institute for Poverty Policy & Research where he will explore issues related to race, poverty, transportation and urban technology. He previously served as the Regional Manager of Public Affairs at Cruise, a General Motors majority-owned company focused on developing self-driving car technology, and launching a driverless ride share service at scale.
Mr. Greenidge’s government experience includes positions at the NYC Mayor’s Office, the NYC Department of Transportation, the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB), the Office of the Secretary at the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT), and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

By now, you've likely seen the reports out of Houston, New York, Detroit, New Jersey and many other cities. For those interested in the numbers: In Chicago, 72% of the people who have died from COVID-19 are Black, although they only make up 30% of the population.
Mayor de Blasio has taken a major step forward for our city by including equity as the guiding principle in the work that we do. To me, equity includes equality, fairness, and justice. This type of goal setting is not only bold and ambitious — but, it is the right thing to do.
